CHRIST CHURCH
Established in 1844, the Christ Church stands
tall at the eastern edge of the ridge. The
Church represents faith, hope, charity, and
patience and has been admired for its excellent
architecture. The pipe organ, inside is said to
be the biggest in India. More than 100 years old
this pipe organ was made to order. It is the
most prominent building on the entire length of
the mall road.
SCANDAL POINT
The Ridge , leading down from the Christ church
joins the Christ church to the Scandal point. It
is considered to be the highest point of the
mall and a fovourite with tourists. It is marked
by a statue of the freedom fighter, Lala Lajpat
Rai.It gives a spectacular view of snow covered
peaks and lush green valleys.
STATE MUSEUM
The Himachal state museum is right on the
mall.Located near the scandal point, the museum
is housed in a charmimg colonial building with a
vast lawn. It has on display a rare set of
paintings, coins, guns and stone sculptures. The
recently opened jewellery gallery provides an
insight into the rich Indian heritage. The
museum has objects which date back to 11th
century like the miniature statue of Lord Vishnu
in bronze. It also houses a collection of dolls
which have been dressed as traditional Himachali
brides.
JAKHU TEMPLE
Perched on the highest peak in Shimla, the Jakhu
Temple is dedicated to Lord Hanuman. According
to the epic Ramayana, Hanuman while on the
journey to fetch th Sanjeevani booti stopped
here to rest.You can spot over a hundred monkeys
here.
The Temple can be reached on foot, on a pony or
by a Taxi.
VICEREGAL LODGE
Located at a distance of 2 km from the Himachal
State Museum, the Viceregal Lodge is located on
the Observatory Hill. Built in 1888, it covers
one full hill and was designed by Henry Irvine.
It has now been converted into the Indian
Institute of Advanced Study.
