Jaisalmer with other cities and areas as well as
other states.
BY ROAD
A well developed network of roads connects
Jaipur to important tourist towns of Rajasthan
and North India. There are private as well as
government buses that connect Rajasthan to all
major metero cities in India.
MAIN DESTINATIONS
JAIPUR
Jaipur is the largest city in Rajasthan. It was
built in the eighteenth century by Sawai Jai
Singh as India's first planned city. Jaipur is a
fast growing city and various development
projects are being done by the government and
private enterprises.
Jaipur is often called the Pink City in
reference to its distinctly colored buildings,
which were originally painted this color to
imitate the red sandstone architecture of Mughal
cities. The present earthy red color originates
from repainting of the buildings undertaken for
a visit by the Prince of Wales in 1876.
It is remarkable for its architecture, town
planning and for the lively spirit of the
people. The city presents a unique synthesis of
culture that has to be experienced to appreciate
it. The stunning background of ancient forts and
monuments reminds one of the glory and charm of
the bygone era.
UDAIPUR
Nestled among the lush green Aravali range,
Udaipur is one of the most romantic cities in
the world. Maharana Udai Singh II founded
Udaipur in 1568. The shimmering lakes, marble
palaces and beautiful gardens that dominate
Udaipur bring out the enchanting character of
the city.
AJMER
The city of Ajmer on Ana Sagar lake is one of of
India most important pilgrimage site for
Muslims. The city, an harmonious mix of various
cultures, is a blend of Hinduism and Islam.
Pushkar, just 11 km from Ajmer is a pilgrimage
town. The Pushkar lake, is a holy spot for
hindus.
While the Tomb or Dargah of sufi saint, Khwaja
Moinuddin Chisti continues to draw crowds for
the Urs, the largest and the most vibrant cattle
fair in the world at Pushkar showcases culture
in an unusual display of animals and craftswork.
BIKANER
The city of sand dunes is, is situated on an
elevated ground, surrounded by a 7 km long wall
and guarded by five gigantic gates. This city is
replete with memories of the bygone era. The
magnificent forts and palaces in reddish pink
sand stone bear testimony to it’s historical and
architectural legacy. The exciting city is known
for its havelis, fairs and festivals, kite
flying, colourful costumes and beautiful
ornaments.
Bikaner has retained its medieval with its
wealth of architectural heritage and has a great
deal to offer to visitors.
JODHPUR
Jodhpur is the second largest city in Rajasthan,
after Jaipur. Located right at the end of the
Thar desert, Jodhpur serves as a gateway to the
mystic land of sands, resounding with war and
love epics. Jodhpur on the edge of the Thar
desert, epitomizes all the romance and feudal
splendour of Rajasthan.
Rao Jodha, a chief of the Rathore clan, founded
this city in AD 1459. also known as the “Blue
City”, the streets of Jodhpur echo with history.
Like other old historical cities of India, the
city has two parts, the old city and the new
city. Beyond the old city, lies the new city of
Jodhpur.
JAISALMER
Described as “The Golden City of India”,
Jaisalmer is synonymous with forts, havelis,
sand dunes and camel rides. It is located among
miles of sand dunes. Inspite of its harsh
climate and hot desert winds, Jaisalmer has
retained its old world charm. With a glorious
history and a rich cultural heritage, Jaisalmer
weaves a magic that leaves one mesmerized and
speechless.The people are fearless and proud of
their heritage readily extend a hand of warm
hospitality.

RANTHAMBORE
One of India’s finest wildlife destination is
located near the town of Sawai Madhopur around
180 km south east of Jaipur. Characterized by
rocky plains and horizontal hill tops, gentle
slopes and steep cliffs and covered by dry
deciduous forests. Ranthambore is virtually an
island rich in flaura anf fauna in an ocean of
villages, farmland and over-grazed arid land.
Ranthambore has seen the rise and fall of many
rulers and series of battle scenes. Mughal
empror Shah Alam gifted it to Maharaja Sawai
Madho Singh I of Jaipur in 1754 and since then
it has been maintained as a hunting preserve of
Sawai Madho Singh.
CHITTORGARH
Chittorgarh is the epitome of Rajput chivalry.
Located to the east of Udaipur, Chittorgarh is a
saga of valour and sacrifice. Atop a 7 mile long
hill, Chittorgarh is home to numerous palaces,
towers, temples, etc. The history of Chittorgarh
is replete with seizures and acquisitions. The
main attraction in Chittorgarh is its colossal
fort, built on top of a hill. The fort is a
reflection of the Rajput culture and tradition.
HOW TO MOVE AROUND
There are various means of transport available
to move around Rajasthan. Private taxis/ cabs
are easily available for both sightseeing and
excursions. Cycle rickshaw and auto rickshaws
are in plenty for local city travel. For
intercity travel rail is a good option. The city
buses run by Rajasthan state roadways are the
most common means of transport used by local
people.
BEST TIME TO VISIT
The summer season in Rajasthan extends from
April to July and is pretty hot and humid. The
ideal time to visit Rajasthan is between October
and March when it is winters in North India.
