ANJUNA BEACH
Eight km west of Mapusa, Anjuna is one of
the most popular beaches in Goa. The sea
is calm so you can enjoy swimming or enjoy
the allure of sunset from any of the beach
resorts’ balcony. Enjoy the funky music
and loud beach parties that are a fixture
of Anjuna. For the gourmets Anjuna offers
the best of western seafood.
You can also take a taxi. The beach is
full of action and has a range of
activities to offer. It's lined with
hotels, bars, restaurants and beachfront
shacks. At a short distance from the beach
is St. Anthony's Church. Then, spending
time at the Wednesday flea market of
Anjuna is an integral part of most
tourist's itinerary. Started by the
hippies in the late Sixties and Seventies,
the market now has a permanent place in
the Goan economy. Held every Wednesday,
the market is full of colour. You can also
opt for yoga sessions or indulge in
adventure sports.
BAGA BEACH
Baga Beach is located just 10-km west of
Mapusa and extends essentially out of
Calangute Beach. It is quaintly located by
the Arabian Sea on the west coast of Goa.
You can laze around on the beach, with the
sea breeze adding to the magic miles and
miles of sand, dotted with sun decks, is
what this beach is all about. It is the
perfect sun strip for holiday makers. The
Baga river flows to the north of the
beach. Numerous hotels and restaurants are
lined up on the beach coast.
South down to Anjuna, it is just a walk
away from the beach. This beach is
actually an extension of the Calangute
Beach and you wouldn't know where
Calangute ends and Baga starts. The beach
has a splendid stretch for those who love
to take long walks. The picturesque view
along the beach is well worth watching. A
short walk up the hill will take you to
the Baga Retreat House, established in
1953, and dedicated to St. Francis Xavier.
Arpora: Saturday Night Markets are quite
popular in Arpora, a village near Baga.
Ingo's Night Market is as famous in Arpora
as the Flea Market is in Anjuna. These
markets are usually held on Saturdays
where sellers from other states of India
as well as foreigners sell clothes,
trinkets, sculptures, wood carvings, other
kinds of handicrafts and semiprecious
stones. Good bargains can be done.
COLVA BEACH
Colva beach, in south Goa, is a hit with
tourists looking for a getaway from the
hustle and bustle of other beaches. It
remains quiet and uncluttered for most
parts of the year. However, in October it
gets overcrowded because of a mountain
influx of pilgrims visiting Colva Church
to pay obeisance to infant Jesus.
You can savor a quiet stroll on the
silvery sands of the Colva Beach on a
moonlit night or a sunbath on the golden
sands of Colva on sunny morning. That
certainly makes your stay at Colva an
utterly romantic experience.
CALANGUTE BEACH
This is queen of all beaches in Goa.
Calangute is thronged by visitors. This
beach is a 7 km long coastal stretch.
Calangute is Goa at its best, you name it,
it's there - the beach, nightspots,
restaurants, night-markets, t'ai chi, yoga
sessions and adventure sports. Delicious
Goan food in all its variety is available
on the beach. Not to forget one thing that
Calangute has some of the bet restaurants
in Goa and that is the reason why many
people flock to this beach.
Tourists can opt for various sports like
Para selling, water skiing and
windsurfing, there are boat operators
offering trips to the Island and
expeditions to fish or spot dolphins and
crocodiles.
CANDOLIM BEACH
The beach is adjacent to Fort Aguada. This
is one clean and straight stretch of sand
in North Goa. As a part of a 30 km
stretch, of beach coastline along the
Arabian Sea, that begins at Fort Aguada
and ends at Chapora Beach, Candolim is a
North Goan beach, which makes it the first
beach that can be approached from the city
of Panaji
Candolim is 13km away from Panaji and 10km
away from Mapusa, this beach can be
reached either by hiring a taxi or an
auto. The nearest railway station, Thivim
Station, is 19km away. Many boat operators
offer expeditions to the island, trips for
spotting dolphins and crocodiles, river
cruises and fishing expeditions. A boat
ride up the Mandovi is also a pleasurable
excursion. There are some clubs and pubs
that you can visit while in Candolim.
VARCA BEACH
Varca has one of the longest stretches
among the beaches in Salcette. The vast
expanse of white sand is ideal for those
seeking peace and quiet. Varca beach in
Goa is a naturally beautiful region. It is
filled with incredible white sands and
occasionally dotted with jet-black lava
rock.Varca beach isn’t the quietest of the
Goan beaches available but it is a lot
quieter than Anjuna and other popular
beach resorts in Goa.
The reason that most tourists visit Varca
palms beach resort Goa, apart from the
natural beauty and local friendliness, is
because of the ability to sail off and
watch the dolphins.
The relaxed atmosphere of Varca beach
allows tourists to spend most of the day
on the beach, broken up by an excursion to
go dolphin spotting and then back again in
time for tea in one of the shacks run by
local residents serving the most
incredible local sea food and local
liquor. |
